“The Diamond Diagram”

Our studio’s role is to study and identify what can be changed in the process, to make the difference and lead to a new, never-thought-of outcome.

How the Diamond Diagram works:
This process is called a diamond diagram because it creates a decision tree in the shape of a diamond:

At the top of the diagram, we engage with the concept or technology. The concept or technology are evaluated, challenged and examined for their feasibility. We then identify alternatives to compare and expand the options. From these options, we then choose the most suitable alternative(s) and develop them in full. Through repetition of this process, we constantly re-evaluate the different alternatives, removing those potentials that are not viable, eliminating options, and narrowing the diamond tree. At the end of this iterative action, we reach our conclusion at the bottom of the diamond, with the product and its production process fully optimized.

Steps to Take Your Product from Ideation to Manufacturing

01

Ideation and Concept Development
  • Brainstorming: Generate ideas and identify potential problems your product will solve.

  • Research: Conduct market research to understand demand, competition, and customer needs.

  • Concept Sketching: Create initial sketches and descriptions of your product.

  • Feasibility Study: Evaluate technical, financial, and market feasibility.

02

Design and Prototyping
  • Detailed Design: Develop detailed drawings and specifications using CAD software.

  • Material Selection: Choose materials based on functionality, cost, and manufacturability.

  • Prototype Development: Create prototypes to test the design, functionality, and usability. Consider 3D printing, CNC machining, or other prototyping techniques.

  • Testing and Iteration: Test prototypes, gather feedback and iterate the design.

03

Business Planning
  • Business Plan: Develop a business plan outlining your market strategy, financial projections, and operational plan.

  • Funding: Secure funding through investors, loans, or grants.

04

Pre-Production
  • Manufacturing Plan: Develop a detailed manufacturing plan, including production methods, equipment needed, and production schedules.

  • Supplier Identification: Identify and vet suppliers for materials and components.

  • Cost Analysis: Perform a cost analysis to ensure the product can be produced within budget.

  • Quality Control: Establish quality control processes to maintain product standards.

05

Manufacturing Setup
  • Facility Preparation: Set up your manufacturing facility, or choose a contract manufacturer.

  • Tooling and Equipment: Purchase or create the necessary tooling and equipment.

  • Pilot Run: Conduct a pilot run to test the manufacturing process and identify any issues.

Full-Scale Production

06

  • Production Ramp-Up: Gradually increase production volume while monitoring quality and efficiency.

  • Supply Chain Management: Ensure a reliable supply chain for materials and components.

  • Inventory Management: Develop an inventory management system to handle raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.

Marketing and Distribution

07

  • Marketing Strategy: Implement your marketing strategy to promote your product.

  • Distribution Channels: Set up distribution channels to get your product to customers, whether through retailers, distributors, or direct sales.

  • Sales and Support: Establish a sales team and customer support infrastructure.

08

Continuous Improvement
  • Feedback Loop: Collect feedback from customers and continually improve your product and processes.

  • Innovation: Stay ahead of the competition by innovating and developing new products or features.
